Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) Berlin
The Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin is the joint responsibility of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch (HfS) and works in cooperation with TanzRaumBerlin, a network of the professional dance scene. Founded in 2006 the HZT Berlin commenced as a pilot project within the framework of the federal cultural initiative Tanzplan Deutschland. From 2010 onwards it has been incorporated within the institutional university framework.
The HZT is located at the Campus Uferstudios in Berlin-Wedding and the Campus Zinnowitzer Straße in Berlin-Mitte.
The HZT Berlin provides a practice led and research driven education in contemporary dance, choreography and performance. Close connection between academic education and professional artistic practice characterizes the courses which offer an experimental approach to study, combine practice-led artistic and research driven education, and practical career guidance. Nurturing individual artistic development, the contextualisation and critical reflexion of art and art practice are integral components of the curricula. Focus is placed on creatively and critically addressing what dance, performance and choreography are and can be as art forms, in today’s diverse social and cultural environments.
The HZT Berlin offers one bachelor study programme and two master programmes:
-
BA Dance, Context, Choreography
-
MA Choreography
-
MA Solo/ Dance/Authorship
